Enamorados del targuá
El targuá es un árbol algo mágico que ha llamado la atención desde hace muchas generaciones, por sus presuntos poderes curativos y por esa manera de engalanar el aire con sus hojas en forma de corazones.
Ya en 1946, uno de los grandes científicos y notable ilustrador botánico, el profesor Rafael Lucas Rodríguez, le dedicó al targuá un estudio de más de 20 páginas en el que despejó algunos de sus mitos.
Estudiantes de Rodríguez todavía recuerdan las pizarras de la Universidad de Costa Rica en las que recreaba magistralmente, con tizas de colores, el targuá y otras especies.
Nadie se atrevía a borrarlas. (gbg)
In Love with the Targua
The targua is a magical tree whose alleged curative powers and heart-shaped leaves have captured the interest of many for generations.
Back in 1946, Professor Rafael Lucas Rodriguez, a notable scientist and botanical illustrator, dedicated a 20-page report to the targua tree in which he dispelled several myths concerning the tree’s properties. To this day, students of Rodriguez recall his colorful chalk illustrations that masterfully depicted the targua and other species. No one dared erase them from the blackboards of the University of Costa Rica.
